Von Dee Pittman, Sr., age 78, of Gulfport, MS, entered in Heaven on Friday, August 26, 2022, at his residence surrounded by loved ones.
Mr. Pittman was born February 8, 1944, in Foxworth, Mississippi to William Pittman and Edna Green Pittman. He was a graduate of North Gulfport High School, class of 1962. He then served for four years in the United States Army as a LT Weapons Infantryman. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Expert Rifleman on M14, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
Mr. Pittman was a Class A Welder and retired from Gulf Ship LLC in 2017. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, all sports, eating, watching Westerns and spending time with his family. He was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and BTU Superintendent.
Daddy has fought the good fight, finished his race, and kept the faith! There are no doubts there is a crown of righteousness laid up for him. He was a great man, our hero, a loving husband, a wonderful father, an awesome grandfather and great-grandfather, a loyal deacon, and a good friend and neighbor to many. He will be missed; our hearts ache; but we will NOT grieve as those who have no hope. The Pittman Family would like to extend a special thanks to his cousins Jerry & Annie Hall, brother-in-law, Robert & Barbara Pharr, North Gulfport High School Classmates, Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church family, and the Kare-In-Home Hospice team. We are grateful for all acts of love and kindness shown to us as daddy transitioned from earth to glory.
Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna Pittman; his daughter, Jacqueline Elaine Pittman Cooper; his son, William Cantrell Pittman, Sr.; his brother, John Pittman; his sister, Edna Osborne; and his grandsons, Kenmarie and Jarmarie Thompson.
