Shelby Barfield

Mrs. Shelby “Jean” Barfield, age 79 of Long Beach, gained her heavenly wings on Saturday, September 5, 2020.

Jean is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jimmy Barfield; her daughter, Tasha Barfield; and her grandson, Devin Berden.

She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in Education and Music. She was a fourth grade teacher in Newton, MS before moving to Long Beach. In order to be home with her children, and because of her passion for music, she decided to give private piano lessons. During 40+ years of teaching piano, she was also a mentor to so many of her students.

Jean was a member of Long Beach First Baptist Church for over 40 years where she served on several committees. She lived her life for her husband, children and God. She was the definition and example of a Godly woman, and loved to help people in any way she could. She will be greatly missed by all.

Due to COVID-19, the family will have a memorial service at a later date.
