Zoe Frances Butler

Mrs. Zoe Frances Jones Butler, age 88, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008, in Ocean Springs.
She was born in Brinkley, Arkansas on May 1, 1920, and her family moved to Jackson, MS where she graduated from Central High School in 1938. Mrs. Butler received a vocal music scholarship to Louisiana State University and was involved in many musical honorary societies. She graduated with a degree in Radio/TV/Music. During WWII, she was a vocalist on the USO Tours in the Pacific. Post-War, she met George Butler at LSU, and they were later married in Baton Rouge, LA on June 6, 1947. She was a writer for several radio and TV stations in Baton Rouge in the 40's, and later worked for the American Red Cross in Jackson, MS. She briefly worked as a secretary for an oil firm in Jackson. She was a member of the Jackson Chorale Society, Music Asacra in Jackson during the 60's, member of the First Christian Church in Jackson, where she was a choir member, children's choir leader, and a Bible study leader. After retirement, she lived in Los Angeles, CA from 1977-1994, where she was a Bible study teacher at her church. She and Mr. Butler then moved to Houston, TX for two years before calling Gulfport, """"home."""" She was affiliated with St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. She was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music, and frequent walks and lunches with friends and family. Her family was very dear to her, and she will be deeply missed. Her grandchildren will remember her for her """"high"""" level of energy and her sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Winslow Butler, Jr.; parents, Milton and Frances Jones; son, George W. Butler, III; two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her daughter, Camille Williams (Butch) of Gulfport; daughter-in-law, Barbara Butler, of Houston, TX; and grandchildren, Teresa W. Huckaby of Switzerland, Trent D. Williams of Baltimore, MD, and Allison Butler of Houston, TX; two great grandchildren, Sydney and Emory Huckaby of Switzerland.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
