Gulfport

Yayoi Masters, age 88, born July 7, 1934, of Gulfport, MS, passed away on July 23, 2022, peacefully surrounded by her family at Gulfport Memorial Hospital.

A native of Tokyo, Japan, Yayoi became a US citizen in the early 1960’s and was a devoted Air Force wife for 20+ years making every military housing unit a warm and comfortable home for her family. She had a zest for life and learning. Yayoi, without a doubt made her mark, touching the lives of many, the world was a better place just for having her in it. Yayoi’s heart was bigger than anyone could ever imagine, she loved her family fiercely. While her passing is a tremendous loss to her family and friends, Yayoi will always live within the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She was an avid knitter and crotchetier, she loved to read, play pinochle and cribbage and her light would fill any room she walked into.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Barry L. Masters (Cheryl) of McDonough, GA; daughter Kathy R. Whitten (Jimmy) of Vidor, TX; her sister Kesae Ikeuchi of Tokyo, Japan; her grandchildren Megan, Miranda, Matthew, Christina, and Curtis; and great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Alana, and Eilee. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Milford M. Masters.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is serving the family.
