Woodrow Payne

Woodrow Murdock Payne, age 82, of Gulfport and Saucier, MS, passed away in Diamondhead, MS on March 25, 2022.

Murdock, known as “Doc” among friends and “Daddy Doc” to his grandchildren.  He was a dedicated and proud father to all of his children.  Murdock retired from Deviney Construction Co. in 2013 after 54 years of service and also served in the National Guard.

Murdock was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Pauline Payne; his children, William F. McLendon, Jr., Phil McLendon, and Karen Bottin; his parents, W. Wilson and Lucille Payne; his brother, Earl Payne; and his sister, Betty Stroud.

He is survived and missed greatly by his sons, Michael (Becky) Payne and Bobby Joe (Tina) McLendon; his daughters, Pam (Carl) Swilley and Vickie (Larry) Rhodes; his brother-in-law, Lawson Stroud; and son-in-law, Ray Bottin; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Curtis Sanders) McLendon, Justin (Christie) McLendon, Jeremy (Marcille) McLendon, April (Cody) Ladner, Pam (Ross) Fogle, Bobby (Amy) Bottin, Amy (Lee) Williams, Gypsy Shemper, Matthew ( Alison) McLendon, Deedy (Jerry) Creel, Leslie (Amanda) Swilley, Bonnie (Mark) Sims, Jasen (Christina) McLendon, Reagan (Daniel) Feeley and Zachary Payne; his 27 great grandchildren; his one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with the visitation for family and friends starting at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
