Winnie Moran Roberts, 81, formerly of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Amarillo, Texas.
Mrs. Roberts was born Feb. 27, 1927, in DeLisle, Mississippi to C.J. Moran and Permelia Garriga Moran. She married Randall Edward Roberts in 1952 and had four children and four grandchildren. Winnie and Randall lived in Gulfport, Memphis, Long Beach, San Antonio and Amarillo. They were former members of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, the Long Beach Yacht Club, the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, and the American Legion.
Winnie was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and a nurturing compassionate friend to everyone. She had a wonderful sense of humor and readily brought smiles and laughter to those whose lives she touched. Winnie instilled in her children the importance of an education and was a lifelong learner. Some of her fondest memories involved fun family trips to pretty places in the U.S. and Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Charlene Roy Roberts; two sisters, Thelma Bass and Ina Foley; and a brother, C.J., Jr.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Randy Roberts, Jr. of Chicago; two daughters, Perri Mann and husband Johnny of Amarillo; and Angela Cavaluzzi and husband Peter of New York City; four grandchildren, Candice of Los Angeles, Chase of Amarillo, Caroline and Andrew of New York City; two sisters, Esther Haas of Pascagoula, and Ellen Kinser of Houston, Texas.
Visitation and Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. Resurrection Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, at St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport, with her son, Rev. Randy Roberts, officiating. Burial will be in Rotten Bayou Cemetery.
