Wilson Henry McMullan, III, age 76 of Long Beach, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2024.

Wilson was born in West Palm Beach, FL on January 17, 1948, to Rubie Lee (Cowart) and Wilson Henry “Jack” McMullan, II. He was a longtime resident of the MS Gulf Coast, primarily Long Beach. Wilson was in the United States Marines for four years, stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland. He later taught at Gulfport High School, before his longtime employment with Memorial Hospital as a Technician in their Sterilization Department, where he retired after several years.

Wilson was a bachelor all of his life. He loved working at Memorial Hospital and he loved his “Memorial Family,” so much, that on holidays, he would often volunteer to work so those with families could be home for the holidays with their loved ones. Outside of work, Wilson was a dedicated caretaker to his loving parents until their passing. He had the nicest demeanor, and he was a loving, caring, and thoughtful son, brother, and uncle.

Wilson was somewhat of a food enthusiast, and most definitely a conversationalist. He never passed on the opportunity of enjoying a good meal, especially with family. He enjoyed eating at many restaurants, oftentimes joined by his sister, Lila, and on occasion, his brother Jack would join them as well when he was in town. Many of the family’s memories of Wilson involved his love for food, conversation, and quality time. At family gatherings, Wilson would always be the last to arrive, even after all of the food was put away and the kitchen was clean, but all the family knew to get the food back out and make him a plate because he was going to stay for a while and usually be the last to leave. Wilson also enjoyed carrying on long and warm conversations while enjoying his “Crown and Coke”.

Wilson always dressed nice, with a “neat’ appearance. He was always sure to remember birthdays and anniversaries and send cards in the mail, and giving gift cards was “his thing”. Wilson was a very genuine and sincere person. Anytime someone would ask Wilson how he was doing, his response was always, “doing good,” and Wilson was also sure to ask how the family was doing, and he would always end a conversation with, “Love to the family”.

When Wilson wasn’t working or socializing, he enjoyed watching all sports on TV. He also enjoyed “working off” his meals by going to the gym at Memorial or riding his bike.

To know Wilson was to love him. He was a nice and gentle man with a warm and soft heart. He was such a kind soul and never met a stranger. No matter the age difference, he could spark up a conversation of common ground. He even had his way of trying to be funny, with things he would say and kid about, but it was often with a straight face and a serious tone.

Wilson is preceded in death by his parents, Wilson “Jack” and Rubie McMullan; brothers, Timothy “Tim” McMullan; and Kevin McMullan.

Survivors include his sister, Lila Dye of Gulfport, MS, and his brother, Jack (Jamie) McMullan of Sterling, IL. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, his great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, and many extended loved ones.

Visitation will be 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport. A funeral service will be after the visitation at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Biloxi National Cemetery.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is serving the family.

The McMullan Family prefers memorial donations to be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Ave, Gulfport, MS 39501, in honor of Wilson’s love for animals.
