Mrs. Wilma J. Newport, 78, of Biloxi, died Monday, July 9, 2007, in Biloxi.
Mrs. Newport was born in Wabash County, Illinois, to Edna Crackle and August Hering, now deceased. She was a graduate of Browns Community High School and attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Biloxi, where she served as a youth counselor for several years. Mrs. Newport was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron, and was a member and past president of PEO Chapter E. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newport was preceded in death by brothers Charles Hering, Robert Hering and Sonny Hering, and sister, Margaret Reid.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, William E. Newport, of Biloxi; brothers, Jim Hering, of Albion, IL; Howard Hering, of Mt. Carmel, IL; and Earl Hering, of Ft. Meyers, FL; and sisters, Helen Booth, of St. Petersburg, FL; and Emma Searby, of Tamaroa, IL. She is also survived by the special and loving family of James David Bounds.
Visitation will be at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S Riemann Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi, on Thursday, July 12, 2007, from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Eastern Star services will be held at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, in the funeral home chapel, followed by burial in the National Cemetery in Biloxi.
