Wilma Mary Hurst, of Gulfport, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, surrounded by her children. She was born April 30, 1922, the fifth child of Emma and Ceville Ladner.
Mrs. Hurst was a native and lifelong resident of the coast. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. Being kind and generous, her heart and home were always open to those in need. An exceptional seamstress, she often made articles without patterns and loved to crochet. Many children have worn dresses crocheted by her for Baptism and First Communion.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Winfred E. Hurst; 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and one great-grandchild, Cade.
Survivors include her 5 children: Thelma (Leroy) Cook, Belle Chase, LA, Nancy (Joe) Yentzen, Pass Christian, Libby (Buddy) Cuevas, Gulfport, Brenda (Raymond) Barrios, Mandeville, LA, and Terry (Candy) Hurst, Gulfport; 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Welton Ladner, Ceville Ladner, Emma Licciardi, Betty Arnold, and Edna Guidry; 12 grandchildren: Melissa Reynolds, Roland Cook, Robyn Manno, Danell Catron, Jennifer D'Aquilla, Michael Yentzen, Patrick Yentzen, Yvette Cuevas, Denise Stringfellow, Monica Bailey, Andrew Hurst, and Melanie Holter; 19 great-grandchildren: Ashlee, Lyndsee, Roland III, Meagan, Anthony III, Betsey, Ian, Jackson, Paige, Anna, Sarah, Jimmy, Nick, Emily, Nolan, Drew, Allie, Quinton, and Emma; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Natalyn Grace.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 6-9 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Depew Road, Gulfport with viewing 1 hour prior to Mass.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
