Willie R. Rodgers, age 77 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mr. Rodgers was a native of Eupora, and had been a resident of Gulfport since 1960. He retired after 24 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War. He then worked for the Gulfport VA in the dining hall and paint shop, retiring in 1992. Mr. Rodgers was a member of the Gulfport Heights Baptist Church were he served as a deacon and in many other positions over the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucinda and Homer White Rodgers and his sister, Myrtis Seawright.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Jo Ross Rodgers of Gulfport; his children, Linda Dunn of Hattiesburg, Charles Rodgers of Gulfport, Kim (Pam) Rodgers, and Rita Rodgers all of Hattiesburg; his sister, Laverne Kolb of Eupora and his three grandchildren, Benjamin Dunn, Ross Dunn, and Skylar Rodgers all of Hattiesburg.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Gulfport Heights Baptist Church, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
There will be an additional service on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Wise Funeral Home in Eupora, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Montevista Cemetery in Eupora.
