Green; his brothers-in-law, Bill Thornton, and Bill Vice (Gladys); a sister-in-law, Jeannie Green; Ken and Tracy Parker; his grandchildren, Chris Green (Chelsey), Carter Taylor, Jayce Cole, Brandi Shields, and Traci Shields Young; his great-grandchildren, Canton Green, Colson Green, Emma Claire Cole, Evi Kate Cole, and Wyatt Young; and his bonus family, Bobby and Brittany Scalzo and their children, Kyler, Stetson, and Ashlynn, Cymantha and her daughter, Charity, and Bradley and Kenna; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was a native of Kreole and moved to the Helena community in 1962 after marrying his wife, Evelyn. He worked as a mill wright at International Paper Company and later owned and operated the Package Store at Johnson’s Corner in Kreole. After closing the store, he went to work for the East Roads Department in Jackson County. He remained there until his retirement as road superintendent in 2016 with more than 30 years of service. He was a member and Elder at The Helena Presbyterian Church.
Delbert enjoyed the simple things in life. In his early years, Delbert played the piano in a band, and he and Evelyn enjoyed dancing. He enjoyed spending time fishing in Bayou Cumbest, going to the camp on Creole Bayou, and later being with his family at Lyons Lake. He could always be found frying the best fish, enjoying a beverage, and just watching the people come and go from the river. He spent his entire life going to ball games, parades, events, racing, and anything else his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in. Even when his health was declining, Delbert would attend as many of the events as he could always telling people he was doing ok.
Evelyn and the children would like to express sincere gratitude to everyone, especially the Helena Community, that has shown love and support to them during this journey. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Antoine Rizk and his staff, Pam at Deaconess Hospice, and Sarah Elizabeth Vice for their care and concern for Delbert. Your prayers and words of encouragement were received with sincere appreciation.
