William "Bill" Lacy

William Thomas “Bill” Lacy, age 89, went back home on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Bill was born in Vicksburg, MS to Emanuel E. Lacy and Theresa Harris Lacy on September 28, 1932.  They moved to Gulfport in 1942 where he spent the remainder of his life.  Bill worked in his dad’s barber shop as a teen and ended his working career in his own barber shop.  The years between were spent working as a teamster, rodeo cowboy, owned a garage/wrecker service and Little Britches Ranch summer camp for kids.  Bill was instrumental in getting the Harrison County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena started and in 2016 was inducted into the Tri-State Rodeo Association Hall of Fame.  He always had a joke, a ready smile and never met a stranger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel E. and Theresa Lacy; brother, Jack Lacy (Fort Collins, CO) and sister-in-law, Hilda Lacy (Hattiesburg, MS).

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jewel Peterman Lacy (Gulfport, MS); brothers, James Lacy (Hattiesburg, MS) and Lamont Lacy (Wickenburg, AZ); nieces, Christine Visser (Visalia, CA), Courtney Biers (Phoenix, AZ) and Beth Peterman (Louisville, MS); nephew Mark Peterman (Louisville, MS); and special friend Mitchel Saucier (Gulfport, MS) both have been like adopted sons.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
