William Edward Young, age 73 of Gulfport died on Saturday, June 28, 2008.
Mr. Young was born May 24, 1935 in Panola County, MS and was a long time resident of the Gulfport community. He was a deacon of Hansboro Baptist Church where he served as chairman of deacons, taught Sunday School, and was chairman of the ChurchaÌââ¢s reconstruction committee. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 17, 1958 and proudly served his country for over 22 years. Later he served as a civil servant for the Department of Defense at the Gulfport Air National Guard, the Naval Construction Battalion, and Keesler Air Force Base until his retirement in February 2003. He was a proud contributor to the Air Force Memorial Fund.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his Father, William Leroy Young; his brother, Timothy Young; and his great grandson, Skylar McSpadden.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Ashton Young of Gulfport; his mother Ella Ruth Epps Young of Oxford, MS; three children, Elisabeth Anne Young Magee (Ronald) of Bay Saint Louis, MS, William Gregory Young (Lori) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Lynda Ruth Young Howze (Kip) of Ocean Springs; three brothers, David Young (Sandra) Laurel, MS, Charles Young (Becky) of Hernando, MS, and Phillip Young (Teresa) of Olive Branch, MS; two sisters, Cora Lee Young Pierce (Albert) of Halleyville, AL and Mildred Ann Young Adderholt (David) of Oaltewah, TN; grandchildren, Trisha Young of NC, Rebekkah Young McSpadden (Richard) of Eloy, AZ, Michael Young of Korea, Bradley Young of Colorado Springs, Jennifer, Christopher, Kaileigh, and Megan Magee, all of Bay St. Louis, Shawn and Lauren Howze, both of Ocean Springs; great grandchildren, Tierrah McSpadden and Matthew McSpadden, both of Eloy, AZ.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008 from the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Biloxi.
The family requests donations to the Handsboro Baptist Church building fund in WilliamaÌââ¢s name, in lieu of flowers.
