William Joseph (Bill) Tracy, 71, of Long Beach, passed away May 5, 2010, at his home in Long Beach. He had been diagnosed in August 2009 with colon cancer.
Bill was born in Gulfport, January 28, 1939, and had resided in Long Beach since 1965. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gulfport,, but attended First Baptist Church in Long Beach with his family. He was a people person and enjoyed his weekly mornings at the Gulfport Memorial Fitness Center where he could visit with his friends. From there each morning he enjoyed the fellowship of his coffee buddies at Triplett Day Drugs in Gulfport. Once diagnosed he no longer could go to the gym or coffee but he continued to think of his friends at those places. His most enjoyment came from trips to Disney World, with October 2009 being his last trip.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert E. Tracy, Sr., Carmen Lopez Tracy; two brothers, Norbert E. Tracy, Jr., and Daniel Boyle Tracy.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mae Beth; his son, William Joseph (Joey) Tracy; grandson, Truett Weston Tracy of Long Beach; and daughter Lisbeth Nicole Tracy of Mobile, AL; sisters Colleen (Ray) James of Gulfport, Dian M. (Bob) Schlicht, of Hermet, CA, and Nina Fraser of Biloxi; brother Cornelius (Chunnie) and wife Janet of Dickinson, TX, sister-in-law, Wanda Tracy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted and Hazel Buckley of Lynn Haven, FL; and Melissa Tracy.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 7, 2010, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Long Beach City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 338, Long Beach, or Memorial Hospital at Gulfport Foundation for Hospice, P.O. Box 1810, Gulfport, MS 39502-1810.
There are so many we wish to thank for Bill's care during his illness and they are: Dr. Stephanie Fussell, Oncologist, and her outstanding staff. Also, Brenda Dubuisson who was not only our Hospice nurse but our friend. Thanks also to all the wonderful nurses on floor 3B, Oncology at Memorial Hospital, Gulfport. The compassion, kindness and excellent care for Bill will always be appreciated.
