William Grant

William “Doyle” Grant, age 89, of Gulfport, passed away on August 19, 2020, in Gulfport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Earsel Grant; a brother, Shelby Grant; and his in laws, Emil and Anita Khail.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn Khail Grant; his children, Gregory Grant (Rosalind), Pam Vance (Stanley), Carolyn Landry, Sandra Grant Wathern, Randall Grant (Lori), and Kyle Grant (Mary); 2 siblings, Sue Ellen Smith (Archie) and Jesse Grant (Lucy); 14 grandchildren, Joshua Waguespack, Jacob Waguespack (April), Grant Vance (Lauren), Kenneth Vance, Daniel Kendrick, Darlene Goodman (Roger), Jessica Wass (Zach), Lori Hipple, Ashley Saad, Heather Seymour (Kevin), Dustin Davis (Stepahine) Chase Grant, Carson and Garrett Grant; 19 great-grandchildren, A.J., Rayne, and Rylee Waguespack; Grayson, Pierson, Logan, and Luke Vance; Devon and Dillon Goodman; Laura Kendrick; Jackson and Aubrey Whaley; Cameron Barkley and Levi Burke; Mariah, Matthew, Haley, and Evan Davis; and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Grant was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport where he attended Gulfport Schools, Perkinston Junior College and MS State University. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and served 10 years in the U. S. Army, including the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Grant was the owner and operator of a restaurant and snack shop, was a real estate agent, and later worked for the post office. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Sunday School Teacher, and he enjoyed square dancing and camping, and while in the Army he enjoyed boxing.

He would always sing “One Day at a Time” and he loved babies, animals, and providing for his family by working from age 6 to age 75.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Humane Society of South MS or Feed My Sheep.

A private service will be held in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
