William Edgar Gilmore, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Gulfport on January 5, 2018. Edgar was born in Bendale, Mississippi and was a graduate of Big Level High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a BS degree in Accounting.  He worked at Mississippi Power Company in various positions and retired as Corporate Secretary and Treasurer after 37 years of service.
Edgar was married to the late Joyce Gunter Gilmore for 40 years and together they had 6 children.  Edgar enjoyed time with family and friends, sailing, playing dominos, and watching the New Orleans Saints and the USM Golden Eagles play ball.
He was a quiet man with an unusual wit that made people stop and listen.  He was a faithful and active member of New Hope Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, and operated the church sound system.  Edgar was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as a true Southern Gentleman.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Vardaman and Eunice Gilmore and his daughter Rhonda Gilmore, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Left to cherish his precious memory is his devoted wife,  Carol Donald Gilmore, two sons , Mark (Karla) Gilmore and Scott (Hope) Gilmore, three daughters, Mona (Jim) Rose, Sandra (Robert) Ryan, and Michelle (Dee) Enroth; three step children, Richard (Maria) Scarbrough, Arlene O'Neal, and Janene (Chris) King, and his 20 grandchildren, Brandon Rose, Keith Rose, Christopher Gilmore, Jordan Ryan, Jacob Ryan, Joy Gilmore, Meagan Gilmore, Shelby Bobinger, Kristen Bobinger, Dylan Enroth, Hayden Enroth, Maddy Enroth, Andrew and Adam Breland, Joshua and Victoria Scarbrough, Chase and Holden O'Neal, and Hali and Lexi James.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to your favorite charity or to Gideons International.
The family would like to express much gratitude to the staff at Lakeview Nursing Center and Comfort Keepers.
The Funeral Service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, 17430 Landon Road, Gulfport, MS on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 12:00 PM with a visitation for family and friends beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.  Burial will be held at Evergreen Gardens on 28th Street in Gulfport.
