Mr. William F. Elmore, age 85, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2008, in Gulfport.
Mr. Elmore was born in Laurel, MS to the late Hobson J. and Letitia Clearman Elmore. Mr. Elmore served his country in WWII in the Mediterranean with the United States Navy. He transferred to Gulfport in 1957 from Meridian working for MS Power Company as a machinist. While living in Meridian, he, a master machinist, and Dr. Rush (of Rush's hospital) developed and patented the first pinning device and technique used in orthopedics. He retired from the power company in 1978 after 30 years of employement. Until his health declined, he was a member of the Elks Lodge, volunteered as an Elk at the VA Hospital in Gulfport running a BINGO game for its patients, supported the local animal shelter, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Beatrice Elmore; son, Geoffrey Blayne Elmore; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his son, William """"Bill"""" Elmore, Jr. of Gulfport; 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 10 a.m., where friends may visit one hour prior to services.
