William """" Billy"""" Bourdin, Jr., 81, passed away Friday, February 5, 2010 in Pass Christian.
Billy was born August 9, 1928 in Pass Christian. In 1950 he married Inez Pavolini. They made their home in Pass Christian and had four children. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Billy was a charter member of the Pass Christian Volunteer Fire Department. He spent his adult years as proprietor of Bourdin Brothers Plumbing, a business founded by his father and uncles in 1932. He retired in 1998 to allow more time for work on his vast collection of historical archives. Billy was best known for his role as Pass Christian's """"Unofficial Town Historian."""" He loved to open the front of his shop """"Musee' Bourdin"""" and share the history of Pass Christian with others. He also spent many days visiting with friends in his shop.
He graduated from St. Joseph School, Pass Christian, was honored by the Pass Christian Chamber of Commerce as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and was a member of the Pass Christian Historical Society and the MS Dept of Archives and History.
Billy and his wife, Inez, worked to establish the Camille Monument in Pass Christian's War Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William """"Willie"""" Bourdin, Sr. and Alice Courtenay Bourdin; and his loving wife, Inez Pavolini Bourdin.
Billy leaves to celebrate his life, his brother, Thomas F. Bourdin; his daughters, Alice (Pete) Bertin, Lyndia (Joey) Miller, and Lisa (Wesley) Henderson; his son, Billy (Lynn) Bourdin; his grandchildren, Robby Chasteen, Gail (Wade) Cuevas, Allyson Miller, Joanna Miller, Jonathan Miller, Rebecca (Charles) McVeety, Alicia Bourdin, and Alex Bourdin; his great grandchildren, Robby, Justin, Mary, and Alice Chasteen, Jadyn and Bradyn Cuevas, and Charlie McVeety; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at Holy Family Parish from 11:30 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery, Pass Christian.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to be made to the Pass Christian Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 274, Pass Christian, MS 39571.
