Wilfred L. Powell, age 90. of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Biloxi.
Mr. Powell was born in Marion County, MS. He was a Staff Sergeant and served in WWII with the 9th Air Force, 322nd Bomb Group, 449th Bomb Squadron in England, Belgium, and France. He worked in oil exploration and as a mechanic.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Powell; sister, Monti Robbins; brother, Blakes Powell; and grandson, Tony Powell.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dovie Tynes Powell of Gulfport; sons, Wilfred L. (Charlene) Powell, Jr., of Biloxi, Garry (Penny) Powell of Vancleave; two brothers, John (Jean) Powell of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Charles (Mary) Powell of Foxworth; two sisters, Hertha Broome of Foxworth, and Libra Coley of Foxworth; five grandchildren, Lydia Sales, Torrey Powell, John, Nathan, and Brent Powell; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 10:00 AM at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd,. Gulfport, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
