Mr. Welton Joseph Ladner, Sr., age 94, resident of Pass Christian, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
Mr. Ladner was born and raised in Pass Christian. He served his country in the United States Army in WWII. He served in law enforcement most of his life. He retired from the the State Tax Commission as a revenue inspector almost 30 years ago. He was an avid bird hunter in his younger years and was honored to be one of the founding contributors to the Mississippi Oral History Project.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Necaise Ladner; son, Johnny Ladner; daughter, Cynthia Ann Ladner; parents, Ceville and Emma Garriga Ladner; grandchildren, Gregory Joseph Ladner and Cynthia Ann Ladner; siblings, Avel Ladner, Esther Ladner, Mamie Necaise, Wilma Hurst, Glynn Gilreath, Ray Ladner, Pete Ladner, and John Ladner.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Marie Shubert Ladner of Pass Christian; sons, Welton Ladner, Jr. of Gulfport, Louis Ladner of Black Mountain, NC, Avel Ladner of Gulfport; daughters, Barbara Culps of Atlanta, GA, and Donna Ladner of Gulfport; stepchildren, Joseph Shubert of Bay St. Louis and Susan Rubio of Bay St. Louis; siblings, Emma Liccardi of Long Beach, Betty Arnold of Pearlington, Edna Guidry of Picayune, and Ceville Ladner of Lizana. He was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and special friends, Ray and Anne Teadt of Pass Christian.
The family would like to express a special heartfelt thanks to the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their care.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the Dedeaux Community on Friday, May 8, 2009, from 10:30am-2pm. Recitation of the Rosary will be at Noon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in the church at 2pm.
Burial will follow at Alphonse Malley Cemetery.
