Wanda Delois Newman born November 10, 1941, in Leakesville, Green County, Mississippi to AJ and Esther Waltman Cooley, went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2024, at the age of 82.
She was a resident of Long Beach, Mississippi since 1960. She has always called her property on Harris Avenue "God's Little Acre". She was a direct descendant of the Vancleave Live Oak Chocktaw Tribe. Wanda grew up in a loving family and loving music. At the age of 14, she sang on air, live radio. She was a multi-talented, self-taught, musician with a natural God-given talent. She loved to paint and create using her hands, She was an artist with a colorful palette. She loved being outdoors in nature and tending to her garden. Wanda traveled with her husband, Charles through the United States and several countries, observing God's beauty. Some of her accomplishments include: she was a Sunday school and Bible study teacher; she was the second female hired for Yellow Cab Company; she was the daytime manager at Fun Time USA; she was a talented seamstress for the Long Beach Carnival Association, Long Beach School Choir, band, and cheerleading divisions as well as the Perkinston Perkettes; she chaperoned the Long Beach High School Concert Choir to Vienna, Austria for an International competition; she was on the parental committee for Long Beach School Board; she was involved with Long Beach Girls Softball League, and was a team sponsor, and she brought to fruition the first Long Beach Christmas on the Avenue Breakfast with Santa, which continues to occur annually. She said her greatest accomplishment was being a God-fearing, God-loving servant. Her second greatest accomplishment was being a mother who loved beyond anything. She is preceded in death by her father, AJ Cooley; mother, Esther Waltman Cooley; sister, Maxine Dueitt; brothers, Edward, James, Harold and Andy Cooley; husbands, Charles Newman and James Bond; daughter, Gloria O'Mohundro; two sons-in-law, David Newbill, Jr. and Samuel Tidwell, Sr.; granddaughter, Ellanora Bond; grandson, Samuel Tidwell, Jr.; and great-grandson, Jacob Seal.
She is survived by her brother, Gerald (Pamela) Cooley of Perry County, MS; brother, Bobby Cooley of Neely, MS; daughters, Nora Newbill of McHenry, MS, Esther Tidwell of Saucier, MS, Billie Ming (Randal Darden) of Long Beach, MS; son, Ricky Bond, Sr. of McHenry, MS; Gerald (Adrian) Burnett of Bryan, TX ("Adopted son");granddaughter-in-law, Rebecca Rhodes of Iowa City, IA; granddaughters, Amber (Jared) Seal of New Market, AL and Brittany and Rachel Darden of Long Beach, MS; grandsons, David Newbill III (Sarah Brown) of McHenry, Ricky (Tara) Bond, Jr. of Saucier, MS, Adam (Brittany) Savarese of Long Beach, MS, Jonathan (Amy) Savarese of Utica, MS, Charles Tidwell (Sandra McNair) of Ocean Springs, MS; great-grandchildren, Nathan Seal, Reaghyn, Shaylen, Tyler, and Brady Newbill, Zander Saunders, Taryn Carter, Ricky III, Tanner and Trent Bond, Eli Savarese, Brooke and Hunter Boyd, Riley Kollath, Mason and Jeremiah Savarese, Tucker and Lexi Rhodes, Natalie, Zoey and Oliver Tidwell, Rebecca Carver, Taryn McIntyre, Michael, Daelyn and Katie Burnett and MANY nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS 39560. The funeral will be on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bobby Jones officiating and visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
