Walter Seymour

August 6, 1948 — November 23, 2020

Gulfport

Private First Class Walter Joseph "Joe" Seymour, 72, fun loving, strong willed, and beloved Father and Brother, was called to his eternal resting place on November 23, 2020.He was born on August 6,1948 in Biloxi, Ms. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Sue and Frederick Seymour, as well as his eldest son, Robby Seymour. He is survived by his brothers David and Dale Seymour, his sons Josh Seymour and Brett Seymour, his daughter Kaysee Seymour, his granddaughters Cierra and Alea Seymour, and his grandsons Sebastian LeBlanc, Roman Seymour, and Brancton Sandberg; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved seeing during family gatherings.

Joe was raised in Vancleave, MS before serving in the Marines as a mortarman from 1967 - 1970. He was a heavily decorated Vietnam Veteran honored with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal with 3 Stars, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, a Combat Action Ribbon, a Meritorious Unit Citation, a Pistol Marksman Badge, a Presidential Unit Citation, and his most proud medal, the Purple Heart Medal.

After his honorable discharge from the Marines, Joe married his first wife, Shirey Mott Rominger, in 1975, legally adopted his first son Robby Seymour and then expanded the family by two with their sons, Josh and Brett Seymour. They were married for 15 years. He remarried Lana McKay in 1991 and they had his only Daughter Kaysee Seymour, and were married 6 years.

Joe was a hard working mechanic for over 40 years before retiring at the age of 62. He was a kind man who would help anyone that he could when he could. He loved to cook and loved to share his creations, from grilled shrimp, to his "famous" Joe Burgers. Joe loved classic rock and listened adamantly to the stations across the coast, befriending various DJ's, affording him to go to multiple concerts and events. He loved the coast life. You often could catch Joe in his younger days enjoying the sun on his skin while relaxing on the boardwalk at the beach, listening to his radio. He played a mean game of pool, and even belonged to a couple of teams across the coast. He loved going to the drag strip, and especially loved Cruising the Coast with his son Brett. He was always ready to have a good time, with good people and good food. Joe always said “only the good die young.” And he was indeed, bad to the bone.
