Walter J. Richardson, age 89 passed away January 21, 2011 in Dayton, OH.
Born in Morgan County, TN April 3, 1921, he was a U.S. Army WWII veteran serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France. As a young man he was saved and baptized into the Pilot Mountain Baptist Church. He moved his family to Dayton, Ohio in 1954 where he retired from the U.S. Post Office and Standard Oil Company in 1986 and moved to Gulfport, MS in 1988. He was a member of Michael Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bessie Terry-Richardson; parents, Garfield Richardson of TX and Lanie Hooks of Morgan County, TN; brothers, Vonil, R.L., and Johnny Paul Richardson, C.O. Hooks; and sisters, Bertha Puryear and Georgia Vangel.
He is survived by sons, Rev. James (Carol), Harold (Rhonda), Terry (Peggy) Richardson of Ohio; and daughter, Faye (Jack) Taylor of Gulfport, MS.; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Lane Cemetery, Lancing.
