Walter McElvenny, known to his friends and family as “Mac or Macky,” age 92 of Waveland, MS, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 2, 2022.
Walter was born in Sharon Hill, PA. He attended Girard College in Philadelphia, PA. He was a self-employed contractor and painter. Walter was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Disabled Veterans Commanders Club and was a Bronze Leader of Mississippi.
Walter loved being with his family, camping and other outdoor activities. He was an avid reader of the newspaper and current events.
He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He rarely had a cross word for anyone.
Walter is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delores McElvenny; his daughters, Rowena Mobley, Kathy Dawson (Karen McCoy), Connie Reddick (Larry), and Joanne Hall; his son, Walter McElvenny, Jr.; his many grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandkids.
The graveside service will be on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Biloxi National Cemetery at 2:30PM.
Walter was a supporter and donated monthly to Disabled Veterans. This was very important to him. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Walter’s name to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org
