Walter Leroy Felty, aged 72, died unexpectedly on October 26, 2021 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi from a heart attack. Walt was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Arnold and Drethea Courtney Felty in April 1949.
Walt served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years in logistics and planning, stationed at air force bases in Taiwan, the Philippines, Louisiana, Maryland, Alaska and Hawaii with the rank of CMSGT in 1989. He met and married his first wife, Endee Felty Perkins, while stationed in Taiwan. He met his second wife, Nancy Shampo, while stationed in Hawaii in 1988 and they were married in Florida in 2008. After completing his active duty service, Walt worked with Lockheed Martin and helped decommission Reese AFB in Lubbock, Texas. He went on to a second career as a commercial laundry manager, working for National Linen and Munro’s in Texas, retiring in 2016 to enjoy farm life and leisurely rounds of golf near Perkinston, Mississippi. A life-long animal lover, Walt has raised and cared for multitudes of dogs, cats, horses, and exotic birds.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Shampo in October 2020, and is survived by two daughters, Donna Felty Heimiller and Jacquelyn Felty; a son, James Felty; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Kenneth Felty, Phillip Felty, Glen Ronald Felty and Paul Felty; and sister, Suzanne Felty Sharp.
