W. T. Smith, age 82, of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2007 in Gulfport.
Mr. Smith's family is one of the founding members of the Steep Hollow Community. He was an Army veteran of World War II, during which his transport ship was sunk by German U-Boats. He was a marine engineer and a member of the Marine Engineer's Beneficial Association. He traveled all over the world by ship, including transport ships during the Korean War and Vietnam. He later worked at Ingall's Shipbuilding Corp.
Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening. He lovingly took care of his dear wife of 60 years, Bernice, until she died, and he will be fondly remembered by his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Smith; and sister, Elsie Smith.
Survivors include his children, Dorothy Cantrell of Dahlonega, GA; Richard (Linda) Smith of Boulder, CO; and Strom (Teresa) Smith of Ocean Springs, MS; his brother, Michael Smith of Steep Hollow; grandchildren, Lisa, Paul, Amy, Jeff, and Michael; and great grandchildren, Michael, Cody, Amber, Chase and Katie.
