Virginia “Jinny” Labre, age 73 of Ocean Springs, MS., passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, in Biloxi, MS. She was born on January 31, 1951, to the late William and Wilda (Huff) Labre, who preceded her in death along with her brothers, William Labre, Jr., and Frank Miller.
Jinny was born in Buffalo, NY but moved to Pennsylvania as a child. She grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Erie, PA High School. Jinny then attended and graduated from Penn State University and moved to the Denver, Colorado area where she resided for 44 years. During that time she would go on to receive her master’s degree from the University of Colorado. In Colorado, Jinny ran her own business, “JL Management Company” from 1991-2017, and was involved in the Workmen’s Compensation division. She even taught at the Arapahoe Community College and Regis University.
While living in Colorado, Jinny found a companion, Don Fillis, who was living just a few doors down. Their companionship grew to love and they were married in Hawaii in 2000. Together, they worked several years in the Denver area then decided to retire to North Carolina where they resided for 9 years, while sharing time between Carolina and Colorado. They decided to forgo their home in Colorado and share their lives between North Carolina and the MS Gulf Coast. They have spent the past 20 years mostly on the beautiful Gulf Coast.
Jinny loved going dancing, and enjoyed having dinner at nice restaurants, and traveling, especially to Mexico. Jinny had a love for the West and enjoyed the Sante Fe, New Mexico area a great deal. She also loved being in the outdoors and playing golf. Jinny was a loving and outgoing person who will be missed dearly. Her spirit will forever live on in all of those she knew and loved.
Jinny is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 24 years, Don Fillis; her brother Rene and nephew Jordan both of Tampa; numerous friends and extended family.
