Viola Reed of Long Beach, passed away Friday, December 25, 2009, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Reed lived on the coast most of her life. Born August 4, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri. For most of her life she was a homemaker, however, during WW II she was a aÌâÅRosie.aÌâ She was also a lifetime member of the American LegionaÌââ¢s Ladies Auxiliary, Post 162 in St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Hoyel and Lillie Lowery from Missouri, husband, Sherwood Reed of Long Beach, two sisters, Ada Bea Carr and Olivern Brabec of St. Louis, and one son, Allan Reed and daughter-in-law, Kim Reed of Plano, Texas.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Roger Reed of Gulfport, two daughters, Rebecca (Reed) Lyle of Garland, Texas, and Mary (Reed) Garrett of Gulfport. One daughter-in-law, Reba Reed, two son-in-laws, Roy Lyle and Timothy Garrett. One brother, Claude Hoyel of St. Louis and one sister, Alma Blattner of Salem, Missouri.
She will be sadly missed by eleven grandchildren, Karen (Reed) Russell and husband William, Paul Reed, Dusty Reed, Jonathon Reed, Lindsey (Reed) Zavcek and husband Donald, Samantha Reed, Katy (Lyle) Ratley and husband Andrew, Alexander Lyle, Robin Lyle, Laura (Garrett) Romines and husband David, and Lynne (Garrett) Shearer and husband Jeremy. And six great-grandchildren, Conner Russell, Chase Russell, Michaela Romines, Dawson Romines, Collin Shearer and Benjamin Shearer.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.
