Vincent Fabian Schott

May 12, 1931 — December 1, 2015

Vincent Fabian Schott died peacefully at his home in Diamondhead, Mississippi on December 1, 2015 at the age of 84.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur E. Schott and Edna Reckenbiel Schott; and brothers, George, Leo, and Charles.
Vincent is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ethel; his children James, Carl, Eric, Anne, Gary, Vincent, and Alan; 19 grandchildren, Jennifer, Samantha, Matthew, Mark, Kyle, Jason, Christopher, Nicole, Logan, Duncan, Nicholas, Rebekah, Laura, Sarah, Jessica, and Brendan (Schott), and John, Claire, and Scott (Brinley); great-grandchild James Davenport; and siblings Jane, Frederick, JoAnn, and James.
Vincent was born on May 12, 1931 in New Orleans, LA. He married Ethel Marie Mendow in 1956 and the couple resided in New Orleans until 1969, when they moved to Waveland, Mississippi only months before Hurricane Camille devastated the Gulf Coast. Vincent and Ethel raised their seven children on Whispering Pines Drive in Waveland, and in 1993 moved to Diamondhead. Vincent shared ownership of Schott and Company, an iconic New Orleans meat processing plant, until the business was closed in 1988 as the result of a disastrous fire. He preferred his subsequent occupation as a casino dealer at the Grand Casino in Gulfport MS, where he was able to receive a salary for playing card games and socializing. He is well remembered as a happy and generous man with an enormous love of life, family, good food, and a glass of wine. He was a devout Catholic, and was an active and dedicated parishioner of St. Clare Church in Waveland for over 45 years.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Clare Catholic Church, 236 S Beach Blvd, Waveland, MS 39576. There will be a visitation in the parish hall adjacent to the church beginning at 10:00 am. A reception will be held in the parish hall immediately following Mass.
All are welcome to attend and join with Vincent's family in remembering him. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Vincent to St. Clare Church, or to a charity of your choice dedicated to the support of families.
