Vernon Parker

March 1, 1934 — January 3, 2021

Diamondhead

Vernon C. “Buck” Parker, age 86, passed away January 3, 2021.
Buck retired as the Chief Engineer for the Louisiana State Department of Health and was a lifetime member of the Louisiana Public Health Association. He was a deacon for over 60 years serving 40+ of those years at Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans, before moving to Diamondhead where he served at Diamondhead Baptist Church. Buck enjoyed playing golf with his friends, playing every day in two groups for many years after he retired. He graduated from Bay High School as valedictorian in 1952, and went on to earn two engineering degrees and Masters of Public Health from Tulane University.
Buck was a member of the Corridor Advocacy Group, a sub committee of the Hancock Chamber Greenways Committee and was actively involved with the development of Scenic Byways in Hancock County. Buck served in the U.S. Air Force as a captain and loved his country and counted living in America a great blessing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Boyd Parker and Irene Bennett Parker; brother, James Walter Parker, wife, Gertrude Burke Parker; his son, Vernon Cobe Parker, Jr.
Buck is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine “Kathy” Parker; daughter, Christa Parker Duhe; son, James Bradley Johnson; grandson, Cameron Parker Duhe; and a number of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly and were such a big part of their lives.
If Buck could tell you one thing right now, it would be that accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior is the only thing you need to know about life. God will do everything else through you as you walk with Him knowing that when you take your last breath on earth, you take the next in heaven, your eternal home. He is there now singing in heaven’s choir. God blessed him with a long life, and he will be missed by family and friends, but we will see him again.
