Vernon Wayne Mayfield

V. Wayne Mayfield, beloved husband of Jane Mayfield for 62 years, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010, at the age of 83.
He was the loving father of Sylvia Arb (Jerry), Jerry Mayfield (Suzanne), Ken Mayfield (Danita), and Paula Mayfield; and grandfather of Garrett, Laura, and Lacey Arb, Laura and Jennifer Read, and Cameron Mayfield, Shane, Therese, and Blaise Mayfield, and Jacob Cook; and great-grandfather of 18 children. Other surviving family members include his brother, Warren Mayfield, and his sisters, Wanda Moore, Wilma Kidd, and Lana Sue Gray.
Wayne was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma, on February 16, 1927, and lived in Diamondhead, Mississippi, with his wife, Jane, since l986. He was a graduate of East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Wayne was a retired manager of gas plant operations for Chevron. He worked in gas plant operations for more than 30 years. Prior to working in the oil industry he was a high school football, basketball, and baseball coach in Oklahoma. After retirement Wayne's favorite hobby was spending as many days a week as he could on the golf course where he made countless friends over the years. Wayne was a member of the Diamondhead Community Church for 23 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at the Diamondhead Community Church on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 3:00 p.m
