SSGT Vernard A. Hewes, USAF, Ret., age 82, of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011 in Gulfport.
He was born in 1928 in Vici, OK and had been aresident of Mississippi since 1947. He served in the Army Air Corps and later retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He later worked for Ingalls Shipbuilding and he was a member of the following: Odd Fellows Lodge, American Legion, Retired Enlisted Association, and the Orange Grove Masonic Lodge #635.
He was preceded in death byhis wife, Bessie Ruth Jackson Hewes, a son, Roger Dale Hewes, a daughter, Brenda Lee Smith, his parents, George and Velma Hewes, and a sister, Pauline Swenn.
Survivors include his 3 children, Jimmy Hewes, Donna Sue Tatro, and Bonnie Lou Reynolds, and a companion of 10 years, Mary Weber.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 6 - 8pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be 10 am Thursday in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
