Mrs. Vera B. Watts, age 81, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Watts was born in Gulfport to Willey M. and Ella Ray Burkett. She was a lifelong resident of the Coast. She founded Watts Western Store and operated it with her family until 1995. She was a leader in the Southern Riders 4H Club of Harrison County, a charter member of 21 Riders Club, and the MS Coast Trailriders Association. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she taught Middle Children's Department, G.A., and Y.W.A., and was a member of W.M.U. She also served as church treasurer and helped organize the library. She was a bookkeeper for Jones Brothers Drug Co., L.A. Koenenn, CPA, and John Heath, CPA, before retiring earlier this year.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Elmer R. Watts; and sister, Inez Bourgoyne.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo Byrd and her husband Eddie of Gulfport; 2 grandsons, Robert E. Byrd and his wife Janie of Gulfport, and Stephen L. Byrd and his wife Tracy of Gulfport; 4 great grandchildren, Rebecca, Stephen II, Hailey, and Brandon.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will follow at Coalville Cemetery.
