Vera Mae Patton Collins died at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 10, 2010.
She was a lifelong resident of Gulfport. She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She left us and this world to become one of God's angels at the age of 77. From 1957-1963 she owned and operated Vera's Beauty Shop on Pass Road in Gulfport.
Mrs. Collins was a very strong Christian woman. She spent the last 20 years of her life researching the bible and studying Christian history. Her research and dedication in Christian genealogy led her to become the first person in our family to write a book, of which she was very proud. It was titled """"America and the Apocalypse"""". Her passion and dedication to both God and family will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her parents, William and Virgie Patton. She is survived by her son, Robert I. Collins, Jr. and his wife, Diane; daughter, Deborah Peterson and her husband, John; son, Richard Collins and his wife, Lisa; seven grandchildren, Robby Collins III, Angela Fairchild, Kurrie Peterson, Josh Peterson, Krystal Fairley, Kimberly Collins, and Chelsea Haley; seven great-grandchildren, Kristen, Katie, and Ashlyn Fairchild, Jesse Collins, Levi Fairley, Brittany Secrest, and Kennidy Wilson.
Special thanks to Carl Clark for his help in our time of need and out hospice nurse, Dawn McColister.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010, at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport. Following the service the family will be accepting friends at 3:00 p.m. at 618 Tennessee Street in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hospice Foundation of Memorial Hospital in memory of Vera Mae Patton Collins.
