Van Guaraggi

Van Joseph Guaraggi, 50, of Bay St. Louis, MS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, surrounded with love by his family and friends. He was born on September 7, 1972, in Abbeville, LA. He was a loving husband, father, stepfather, son, brother, nephew and friend to so many who will miss him dearly. He was an avid dog lover who absolutely adored his 4 Belgian Malinios: Taz, Aries, Haites, and Lucky. Van was a diesel mechanic by trade and spent most of his younger years turning wrenches. He was also a corrections officer for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Van had a heart of gold and was considered as most would call generous. He would go out of his way to help anyone who was in need, no matter the circumstances. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone who had a listening ear, no matter where they happened to be!

He is preceded in death by his adopted parents, Vincent Guaraggi and Vera Doughty Guaraggi; maternal grandfather, Edwin Doughty; cousin, Kenneth Fayard; father-in-law, Willys Garcia; and sister-in-law, LaDonna Robertson.

Van is survived by his wife of 11 years, Chassy; his sons: Dillon (Destani) Guaraggi, of Houston, TX; Trey (Alexis) Guaraggi, of Lake Charles, LA; Chad (Lauren) Guaraggi, of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren: Raven Renee Guaraggi and Adaline Marie Guaraggi; stepchildren: Destiney (Kenneth “Tubby”) Lafontaine, of Kiln, MS and Elizabeth (Derek) Lafontaine, of Gulfport, MS; mom Alma (John) Guillotte, of Carriere, MS; aunts: Carolyn (T.J.) Fayard, of Vancleave, MS; Ellen (Jim) Couch, of Carriere, MS; siblings: Troy (Laney) Tate, of Carriere, MS; Scott Tate, of Georgia; Melinda (Dennis) Diaz, of Carriere, MS; Andre Guillotte, of Carriere, MS; and Renee Guillotte, of Lafayette, LA; mother-in-law, Linda Garcia; sisters-in-law: Shannon (Mark) Smith, of Poplarville, MS; Kelly (Keith) Lee, of Poplarville, MS; brother-in-law: Rhannon (Angela) Garcia, of Kiln, MS; his little “shadow” Silas Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, October, 15, 2022, at Community Baptist Church in Poplarville, MS, located at 33 Community Church Rd., Poplarville, MS 39470 beginning at 9:00am for immediate family only and 10:00am for extended family and friends, with a service beginning at 3:30pm. Burial will follow at Barth Community Cemetery.
