Vada Smith Gibbons was born February 25, 1936, and died Friday, January 28, 2022, at the age of 85. She was a native of Searcy, Arkansas and resided there, in North Little Rock, Arkansas and in Long Beach, Mississippi during her lifetime. She was a 1953 Graduate of Searcy High School.
She retired from Sunshine Uniform Service in North Little Rock and for 9 years managed Beatline Road Mini-Storage in Long Beach with her husband, A.C. Gibbons.
Vada was a follower of Jesus while she lived, and she worshiped with fellow believers at the Pineview Church of Christ near Clay, AR and with the Long Beach Church of Christ while in Mississippi. She was known for her kindness and service to others. She was a beloved Bible school teacher for many years, devoting herself to the smallest children in Cradle Roll. She practiced hospitality and, in her home, children were always welcome. They would find fun things and the undivided attention of an adult who made them feel very special. She loved them and was much loved in return. Even as her illness took away her ability to walk, her lap welcomed great grandchildren. She insisted that there were always picture books within reach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Estha Smith; her husband of 57 years, A.C. Gibbons; and her great-grandson, Levi Buckley. She is survived by two children, Sarah (Stephen) McNally and Allen (Kristy) Gibbons; by her sister, Brenda Hixson; her brother, Lynn (Diana) Smith; and maternal Aunt, Glenna Lytal. She left 6 well-loved grandchildren: Vada (Charlie) Buckley, Owen (Lindsay) McNally, Micah (Bailey) McNally, Callie (Jacob) Robinson, Katy McNally and John Michael Gibbons and great-grandchildren: Gabe, Reilly, Irene, Makenna, Maeve, Brady, Vera, Margot, Paul, and Joshua. Vada lived out her faith in every part of life showing Christ’s love in her to all she met. She will be missed, but her influence lives in our memories, even as she lives on eternally with the God she trusted and obeyed.
“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart… “ Luke 6:45a
