Una Mae Ladner, age 92, of Long Beach, passed away on February 1, 2022.
She was a native of Dedeaux, MS and was a 1947 graduate of Pass Christian High School.
Una was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Harold Ladner; a son-in-law, James Douglas Daniel; her parents, Ola and Azelia Ladner; her brothers, Leon, Leran, Clarence, Neville, Jimmy, Woodrow, Carl, Royce, and Ola, Jr.; and her sisters, Viola Cuevas, Clara Hoda, Cleo Zahn, Essie Jewel Ladner, and Leola Alexander.
She is survived by her 2 children, Denise Ladner Daniel and Reg Ladner; 2 grandchildren, Alanna Daniel and Jason Daniel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In 1947, she was employed at Mac Smith’s Garment Factory as a seamstress. In 1948, she worked at Edgewater Gulf Hotel as a secretary and in 1950, worked as a secretary at West Brothers, Inc. Her final job before retirement was teacher’s assistant at Long Beach School District from 1972 until 1988.
Una was the 11th of 15 children and the last to survive her immediate family. As an elementary teacher’s aide her compassionate and loving approach were very significant in the lives of countless children. Her heart, however belonged to her two grandchildren, Alanna and Jason. She never missed a recital and attended every sporting event where she was front and center cheering their accomplishments and awards. In a nutshell, she was the best of mothers.
She enjoyed her daily walks with her best friend, Elaine Ehlers. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader, and loved to travel. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 12 pm – 2 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 pm in the church. Following the mass, interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou.
Pallbearers include Jason Daniel, Troy Ladner, Beau Ladner, Keith Hoda, Daryl Ladner, and Marlin Ladner. Honorary Pallbearers are Malcolm Alexander and Bobby Ladner.
