TSgt Jerry L. Berhow (USAF Ret) was born September 30, 1939 in Leadyard, IA to Adolph and Iona Berhow. While he was in elementary school the family moved to Omania, MN where he graduated from high school and enlisted in the Air Force.
While in the Air Force he served as an Air Traffic Control Radar Technician. His assignments included King Salmon AK and Vietnam. He also served as an Electronic Instructor, earning the rank of Master Instructor.
After retiring from the military he returned to the job he loved the most, teaching electronics at Keesler AFB in the Civil Service. He taught Basic Electronics and the Airborne Radar TechniciansaÌâ⢠course and received many outstanding performance awards. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Psychology in 1999. He also earned a license as a charter boat captain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marion Mogensen and brother Adolph Lee Berhow.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Berhow of Biloxi, MS and 11 Children, William Russell Berhow, William (Bill) Berhow (wife Judy), Gerry Lee Berhow Faulkner, ( husband James) Rhonda Burton (husband Clyde), Cary Ann Holley, Mary Ann (Woodard) Cook, Bryan Cook (wife Monica), Bobby Cook, James (Jimmy) Cook (wife Christy), William Russell Bobinger III, and Karoltta Bobinger Bonilla (husband Renalto).
Surviving are also brothers Melvin (Bud) Berhow and wife Wanda of Bakersfield, CA, Martin Berhow of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, Merwin Berhow and wife Lois of Ramsey, MN, Thomas Berhow of Port Charlotte, FL and Danny Berhow and wife Mary of WI. Surviving sisters are Faye Knudsen of Algona, IA, Ruth Campbell of St. Louis park, MN, Betty Gibas and husband Ed of Omania, MN, Annabell Larsen and husband Eugene of Ocean Springs, MS, DeeEtta Kuehn and husband Melvin of Vancleave, MS and Virginia Evensen and husband Ronald of Milaca, MN. Jerry also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Jerry was a kind man who always made time to help family, friends, and neighbors and will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 2:30 at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
