Troy Edwin Herring

June 6, 1930 — July 22, 2012

Troy Edwin Herring, Sr. died July 22, 2012 after a short and difficult illness from mesothelioma.
Troy was born June 6, 1930 in Gulfport, MS to Clinton and Ruby Herring and was a lifelong resident of Harrison County, MS.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Sanders Herring; his parents Clinton Herring and Ruby Herring; his brothers Benjamin Herring and Clint Herring.
Troy is survived by his children, Diane Mitchell (Eugene) of Lyman, MS, Brenda Hutchinson (Tim) of Lyman, MS, Nancy Irwin (Bill) of McHenry, MS, Patty Armond of Sacramento, CA, and Troy ""Eddie"" Herring, Jr. (Lorri) of Perkinston, MS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Greg Mitchell of Atlanta, GA, Jamie Parker (Darinda) of Saucier, MS, Kerri Hutchinson, (W.L.) of Wichita, KS, Billy Irwin (Jan) of Gulfport, MS, Anitra Parker (Chad) of Atmore, AL, Jessica Whittington (Chris) of Wiggins, MS, Jennifer Sullivan (Kenny) of Gulfport, MS, and fifteen great-grandchildren; and his sister, Adrian Busche (Bill) of Palm Desert, California.
Troy was very active in his community and enjoyed many friends and family. He attended Orange Grove High School in Harrison County, MS where he was a basketball star achieving numerous athletic awards. He maintained close, life-long friendships with many of his fellow students. Troy served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He retired from IBEW Local 903 and traveled the world working as a journeyman electrician. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Gulfport Blue Lodge Masons, a member of Scottish Rites and York Rites, a charter member of Joppa Shrine Temple, and a member of Coast Nobles Shrine Club.
He enjoyed the local Mardi Gras festivities. He was a charter member of Orange Grove Carnival Association, serving in many capacities including President, King, and member of the Court. He was also a member of the Krewe of Gemini. He enjoyed weekly golf and card games with friends until his illness.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME on Highway 49, Gulfport, MS. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Herring, Gary Reeves, Jr., Howard Richardson and Jim Stout.
