Troy Lavoy Craft, Sr. of Biloxi, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Biloxi Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1921 in Taylorsville, MS and lived a full life of 87 years.
Troy was raised in rural Mississippi where he loved to hunt and fish. He was known for his adventurous spirit and athletic skills. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1939, serving in Alaska and the European Theater of Operations during World War II. While serving in England, he met and married his wife, Marjorie. She was serving in the British Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Troy was an aircraft engine mechanic and crew chief during his 21 years in the Air Force. He retired and moved to Biloxi with his family in 1961. Troy entered his second career as a nursing assistant at the Biloxi Veterans Administration where he worked for 26 years.
He was a loyal fan to his sons while they were participating in sports, both at Biloxi High School and at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a GREAT DAD and HUSBAND and will be missed by his loving family. REST IN PEACE, DAD!
Troy was proceeded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Pearlie Mauldin Craft, and a brother, Sylvester """"Sie"""" Craft.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Knott Craft; three sons, Troy Craft, Jr. (Joan), Michael Craft (Sandra), and Russell Craft; four grandchildren, Stacey O'Connor, Jeffrey Craft, Jennifer Craft, and Laura Craft; three great-grandchildren, Cameron and Aaron O'Connor, and Erin Campbell; two brothers, John Craft and S.B. Craft; and one sister, Carlee Jones.
The family would like to thank the Biloxi Veterans Administration staff, nurses, and doctors for their loving care of their dad, and all other veterans at the facility.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
