Thomas A. Wheelden, 64, a life-long resident of Bay St. Louis, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Hancock Medical Center.
Thomas was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sargeant, serving in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bay St. Louis and a member of the American Legion.
Thomas, in life, laughed often and loved much; won the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children. He earned the approbation of honest critics. He appreciated beauty and found the best in others. He gave of himself to leave the world a bit better. He played and laughed with enthusiasm and sang with exultation. Many lives have breathed easier because he lived. Thomas, in every sense, succeeded in life and will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lydia Wheelden; and his brother, Bobby Ray Wheelden.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Lucy Baker Wheelden; 6 children, Donald E. Baker, Ziena Loftus, Kimberly Yomans, Kelly Strong, Robert Baker and Teddy Baker (Niny); 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Riemann Family Funeral Home in Pass Christian is in charge of arrangements.
