Thomas Walter Hill, of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022.
Tom was a lifelong resident of the Handsboro community in Gulfport, MS. He was a man of many interests and talents, wholeheartedly throwing himself into each and every project. As a young man he was an accomplished archer and an avid water-skier. He attended Mississippi State University, remaining a lifelong fan. He spent his working years with the US Postal Service. He was a talented woodworker, gifting family members with lovingly made Adirondack chairs. He appreciated flying and was a member of the Mississippi Coast Radio Control Club and built his own models. He loved antique cars, especially 1950’s Chevrolet models. He raised and showed rabbits. He became a Master Gardener. He loved his family and his dogs.
A faith-driven man, he was an asset to any church in which he participated. He volunteered to cut grass, or bring meals, or just anything anyone ever needed. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Tom knew that he had a big generous heart and would help with anything, anytime.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Vashti Hill; his sister, Carolyn Boyd of Vancleave; his brothers, L.C. Hill of Pass Christian and Herbert “Smokie” Hill of Vancleave; his grandson Spencer Henry, and his beloved Golden Retriever fur-babies, Taffy and Rusty.
Tom is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 62 years, Frieda, and his children Sheila (Scott) Henry of Saucier; Marilyn “Sondra” (Richard) Johnson of League City, Texas; Tom (LuAnne) Hill of Biloxi, and Barton Hill of Lafayette, Louisiana. He leaves behind his grandchildren Amelia, Christian, and Albert Fabian; Chris and Sara Sigler; Thomas Hill III; Tyler Henry, and Morgan Henry-Santana, and eleven great-grandchildren: Oliver, Vivian, Haylee, Nick, Summer, Aubrey, Caroline Kate, Mack, Ava, Ace, and Caz.
The family wishes to thank the paramedics of AMR and the staff at Gulfport Memorial Hospital for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, MS.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, MS. Following the service, there will be a brief time of visitation. Riemann Family Funeral Home, Three Rivers Road, Gulfport is serving the family.
