Thomas Ervin Petermann, age 89, of Long Beach, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Woycke; his parents, Ava Maritain and John Petermann; his brothers, J.W., Bill, and Jim; and his half-sister, Jackie Camola.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; his daughter, Ava Bertrand (Ted); his sons, Thomas, Jr. (Sally) and Jake; his 8 grandchildren; his 11 great grandchildren; and his half-sister, Jane Branch.
Tom was born August 14, 1931, in Inverness, MS and grew up in Yazoo City. He graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1950 and then attended Georgia Tech where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He proudly served for two years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a second lieutenant.
In January 1955, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Stegall. They lived in nine different states where he was involved in the engineering and construction of large dams and bridges. After Hurricane Katrina, he helped people on the MS Gulf Coast to rebuild or repair their homes, and also designed raised foundations for many of those homes. Tom was a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Segmental Bridge Institute. He also served for many years as an elder at Pineville Presbyterian Church.
The memorial service will be at 4 pm on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Long Beach, where friends may visit from 3 - 4 pm and online tributes may be offered at www.riemannfamily.com
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Haven Children’s Advocacy Center, 706 US-90 West, Waveland, MS 39576; or the French Camp Academy, 1 Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
