Thomas "Tommy" David Nicholson, Sr., of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018.
He was born in Arkansas to Robert and Mary Newberry Nicholson. He graduated from Grubbs High School in Arkansas and played scholarship basketball at Arkansas State University. While there, he was a member of the Lamda Chi Fraternity. After college graduation, he got on his motorcycle and headed to Biloxi where people were sunbathing in February on the beach. He taught History and PE and coached girls' basketball at North Gulfport Middle School, where he was commonly referred to as "Coach". Following teaching, he enjoyed a career in insurance with AFLAC. He loved playing basketball, fishing, and watching sports, and spending time with his kids and grandchildren who will lovingly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Angela James.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Newberry Nicholson; children, David Lansing Nicholson of Gulfport, Laura Nicole Touchstone (Jeffrey) of Wiggins, Thomas David "Nick" Nicholson, Jr. (Kristen) of Gulfport, and Eric Taylor Nicholson (Skylar) of Biloxi; siblings, Brenda O'Hara (Robert), Mollie Wright, Robert Gregory Nicholson (Vicky); grandchildren, Nathaniel, Eliana, and Elijah Touchstone, expected granddaughter Evelyn Nicholson, and Lovell, Dean, and Ava Dunlow; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
