Theresa Overmyer

Theresa Ann Schenkel Overmyer, 89, passed away peacefully August 24, 2021 in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Fort Wayne, IN. Theresa graduated from Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne and continued yearly girls club visits with close friends from high school. She was a homemaker and worked in childcare throughout her life. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Saucier, MS, and had volunteered there in many capacities. Her many passions included reading, swimming, spending time with her family, and helping others. Theresa chose every day to lead in love and compassion for others.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard N. Overmyer; her parents, Carl and Martha Schenkel; and two grandsons, Richard Overmyer and Christian Overmyer.

A beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Theresa is survived by her nine children: Kurt Overmyer (Judy), Karen Caudill (Gary), Karol Klim (Richard), Karl Overmyer (Johanna), Kathy Alles (Mark), Kent Overmyer (Kelli), Kallie Bassett (David), Klark Overmyer (Robin), and Kristine McClain (Michael); 18 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her sisters, Carol Claymiller (Mel), Linda Sweeney, and JoEllen Hamilton; and brothers, Steve Schenkel and Mark Schenkel.

The Overmyer family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at One Magnolia Place Assisted Living, Lakeview Nursing Center, and Singing River Gulfport for their excellent care of Theresa.  No service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your children’s charity of choice.
