Terry Glenn Thornton, a cherished figure to many, passed away peacefully on October 13 2024, in Ocean Springs, MS. Born on December 12, 1946, in Pascagoula, MS, Terry touched the hearts of all who knew him with his remarkable spirit and gentle demeanor.
Terry was a man of the people, known affectionately by many names. High school friends lovingly called him "Smiley," while some of his church friends referred to him as "Darling." Those who lived in the neighborhood recognized him as the ever-reliable handy man, always ready to lend a helping hand. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and, perhaps most importantly, a true friend.
His passion for music was a defining aspect of his life. Terry composed and performed songs dedicated to the Lord, sharing his heartfelt melodies within the walls of the church or wherever he was asked to sing. His love for faith and community resonated deeply with all who heard him.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 7 years, Bonnie McMillan Thornton, and his sons Victor (Laura) Burge and Adrian (Caydee) Riser-Burge, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear sisters Joyce McKinley and Frances (Doug) Hill, and his sister-in-law Trish Thornton, several nieces, nephews and countless friends who will forever remember his kindness and laughter.
He now joins his loved ones who have gone before him, his parents Charlie and Edna Thornton, his brothers Donald (Inez) Thornton, Nolan (Lee) Thornton, Melvin (Evelyn) Thornton, and Kenneth Thornton. His sisters Katherine (James) Howell, Margie (Jesse) Younger, Juanita Winstead, as well as sister Bonnie (Doug) Mazingo, will also be with him in spirit.
Terry Glenn Thornton will be remembered not just for what he did, but for who he was—a beacon of joy, love, and unwavering friendship. He did everything "the Terry way," leaving behind a legacy of warmth that will resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
