Jean Eakin, 80, died peacefully at her home in Diamondhead, Mississippi on June 30, 2007.
Sula Jean Yeager Eakin was born October 8, 1926 in Ozark, Arkansas. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to begin a long nursing career after graduating from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She worked at the former Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, practiced psych, ER, and OR nursing and taught surgical nursing. Jean and her husband Charles moved to Diamondhead where they enjoyed an active but relaxing retirement. She was a member of Temple Sinai of New Orleans, was world traveled, enjoyed playing bridge, birdwatching, and gardening. She also volunteered her time at the local food bank.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles A. Eakin of Diamondhead, loving mother to her daughter, Suzanne Bruce of Diamondhead and son, Charles (Bill) William Eakin II of Duncanville, Texas, sadly missed by her brother-in-law, Morrie L. Eakin of Gautier. She is also survived and fondly remembered by her granddaughters Andrea E. Vilemont Moreau, Ashley Vilemont McFadden, both of Diamondhead, and grandson Charles (Bill) William Eakin III of Duncanville, Texas. She was great-grandmother to Madison Kolidas McFadden and Andrew Moreau.
She will also be greatly missed by her caretakers Albertine Ausmer, Jackie Dedeaux, Emma Halton, Edriner Landry, and Cynthia Rutledge.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at 1:30pm at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S Riemann Funeral Home, Hwy 49 North Chapel in Gulfport. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
