Sue Ellen Walker, 64, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
Sue was born on June 1, 1957 in Chandler, Arizona. The family lived three years in Chaumont, France and traveled throughout Europe. Sue moved to Gulfport in 1962 and never left. She graduated from Gulfport East in 1975. She began working at Gulfport Memorial as a LPN as she studied in every spare moment to be a Registered Nurse. Sue retired from the Gulfport Memorial after 35 years of working in Labor & Delivery, Nursery and as a system manager for electronic health records and informative services.
Sue was married to Robert Kelly for 18 years until his passing in 1995. Bobby & Sue and their two sons, Lacy and Chris, spent family time boating, fishing and crabbing. Sue loved their Hobie Cat and enjoyed many days sailing with family and friends. Camping was a favorite getaway for the family. Sue learned Southern cooking from Bobby and his mother, Mary Francis.
When Sue married Bill Walker in 1996, she gained two additional sons, Tim and Tyler, and a blended family was created. Bill and Sue shared a love of music and their dogs, Kramer and Marty. They built their dream home together on three acres, a pond, and a barn for horses. Their home was the place of many family gatherings, a special place to enjoy her loved grandchildren.
Sue was involved in Bel Aire Baptist Church and deepened her love for Christ. Sue sang in the choir, made costumes for the Passion play, assisted with Vacation Bible School and preschool choir, attended Sunday School and Bible study.
Sue would often get up before dawn to go to the beach to take sunrise pictures. Her favorite subjects were her grandchildren. When Sue moved to the country, she purchased her first horse, Spartan and then added Rosie and Dally. She spent numerous hours grooming, training, and loving on her horses.
In 2018, Sue suffered a stroke that nearly claimed her life. She lost her ability to read and despite speech therapy and determination she never overcame this hardship. Her frequent headaches hindered her lifestyle significantly and she found that she could not do the things that she loved – gardening, cooking, photography, and horse training.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bobby) Kelly; father and mother, Conard & Lenore Thompson; and daughter-in-love, Amber McCracken.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Walker of 24 years; four sons, Lacy Kelly (Amber), Tim Walker (Darla), Chris Kelly and Tyler Walker (Samantha). Grandchildren include Owen Walker, Knox Walker, Vivian Walker, Esther Walker, Adalyn Kelly, Maxwell Walker, and Jaxson Walker.
