Sue McCoy

July 30, 1941 — March 6, 2022

Pass Christian

Sue E. McCoy, age 80, of Pass Christian, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

She was preceded by her father, Donald Whitcomb; and her mother Theresa Whitcomb; her sisters, Ann Jons, and Mary Steensland; and a granddaughter, Paula McCoy.

Sue is survived by her children, Michel McCoy, Marie McCoy, Charlene Wilke (Efrain), and Mike McCoy (Jennifer); her grandchildren, Jacob, and Evan McCoy; her brother, Don Whitcomb; and a sister, Margeaux Whitcomb.

Born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended Edgewood College in Madison, WI where she obtained a bachelor’s in education degree. She was an independent editor and writer, and later worked in the City Attorney’s office of Madison.  Sue married Francis McCoy and they had three children together. Upon retirement she moved back to Sioux Falls, then later to Springfield, MO and for the past year in Pass Christian, MS.

She loved gardening, writing, traveling and adventure. She bought her first Harley at 50, and absolutely loved riding, racking up thousands of miles over the next 25 years. She was a spectacular mother, grandmother, sister, friend, Aunt and ‘bonus Aunt Sue’ to so many. As many have stated, “everyone needs a Grandma Sue”.

She breathed in pain and exhaled love. She never backed down from defending whoever needed her. “Speak loudly even if your voice shakes”, was a way of life for her. She was a beautiful teacher and leader. A writer, protector, and nurturer to all beings.

She loved fiercely and taught many of us to do the same. She found her own path and bravely walked it, giving courage to so many who were struggling with the same journey. If you knew her, you loved her, and love energy never dies. In was a privilege and an honor to share a space in her great and beautiful heart.

There will be no local services. There will be services at a later date in Sioux Falls, SD.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, is serving the family.
