Steven R. Kohl, 66, of Pass Christian passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Gulfport.
Steve was a native of Ashby, Massachusetts, and had been a resident of Pass Christian since 1966 after graduating from Auburn University with a degree in business. In Pass Christian that same year, he opened the automotive repair facility Kohl Motors, which later moved to Long Beach in 1980. Having been certified for over 25 years as a Master Automobile Technician by the National Instiute for Automotive Service Excellence, Steve retired from Kohl Motors at the end of 2007. Along with his family, he owned and operated Holly Ridge Christmas Tree Farm for 20 years.
Mr. Kohl was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pass Christian, where he had served as an usher and vestry member. At the time of his death, Steve was chairing both the Pass Christian Zoning Board of Adjustments and the Pass Christian Tree Board. For 22 years, he had served in the Pass Christian Volunteer Fire Department, including time as chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. He also was Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 316 for two years.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Helen Kohl, also residents of Pass Christian.
He is survived by his wife Helen Kohl of Pass Christian; daughter Karen Kohl of Pass Christian; son Geoffrey Kohl of Old Fort, North Carolina; brother Allen Kohl of California; and sister Jane Callander of New South Wales, Australia.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at First United Methodist Church, 526 East Second Street, Pass Christian. Father Chris Colby of Trinity Episcopal Church will be officiating.
